About this app

Planning to see the northern lights in Iceland? Aurora Iceland gives you a real-time, science-backed answer to three simple questions: Can I see aurora tonight? Where should I go? When should I look?

REAL-TIME AURORA SCORES

Every 5 minutes, our algorithm crunches live data from NOAA satellites, cloud forecasts, solar wind measurements, and darkness calculations to score every viewing spot across Iceland from 0 to 100. No guesswork—just clear, color-coded scores that tell you exactly how likely you are to see aurora right now.

INTERACTIVE MAP

See every viewing spot on the map, color-coded by current aurora probability. Toggle cloud cover and aurora activity overlays to understand conditions at a glance. Community sightings appear as live photo markers—see where people are spotting aurora right now.…

Version 1.4.13 · 2026-10-28
• Redesigned Tours tab: a photo for every tour, prices in 9 currencies, and tours that are easier to compare • Tonight's Outlook now shows tonight's Kp, not the current one • Quiet night near Reykjavík? Home now suggests evening plans that don't need a clear sky • Daytime ideas on Reykjavík tours: ice caves, the Golden Circle, whale watching • Sign-in and setup in all five languages • On cloudy nights, the forecast tip now blames the clouds, not the sun • Smoother scrolling in All Tours
Version 1.4.12 · 2026-10-24
What's new in 1.4.12 • Seasonal themes: the app dresses up for the holidays, starting with Halloween. • Aurora Hunt: redesigned badges with medals, a celebration when you earn one, and 4 new badges to collect. • Map: jump between recent sightings with the arrow buttons. • Hall of Fame: swipe through every winning photo. • Settings: a cleaner layout, short video guides, and a button to share the app with a friend. • Choose in Settings whether the photos you post can help improve our aurora detection. • Route planner and map fixes, and a smaller download. Clear skies!

Method and limits

What this report can and cannot show

What a missing label means

Not yet tested. No analysis has been published for this app, so there is no method to describe for it yet. A missing label is not a clean bill of health: it means nothing has been read, not that nothing is wrong.

Limits of this report

  • A package scan is static. It identifies code and text in one Android build. It does not measure a live ad session, test a deletion request, or count the steps needed to cancel.
  • Reviews keep their sample. A review-only charge shows distinct reviewers, the share and the sample size, and is published only once it clears that label’s published threshold. Calibration labels are machine-drafted and not yet confirmed by a person.
  • Not assessed is a state. It is never a zero and never a pass.
  • A missing label is not a clean bill of health. It means the evidence did not support one, not that the app is problem-free.
Not yet human-reviewed. A human review gives an app hands-on, recorded measurements. None has been run for this app. Hands-on inspections are not yet open.
