Basho is a quiet, focused reader for the haiku of Matsuo Basho (1644-1694).
Each poem is presented the way it deserves: the Japanese original first, romaji close by, a careful English translation beneath, and a short interpretation when you reach for it. No feed, no account, no clutter.
THE READER
- Japanese originals lead, with romaji support
- Careful English renderings, one poem per screen
- Interpretation notes on imagery, season, and context
- Type size, typeface, and layout controls, including vertical Japanese text
- Day, sepia, and night reading themes
THE LIBRARY
- 48 poems in the launch collection, spanning the four seasons
- Browse and search in English or Japanese
- Filter by season or bookmarks
- A poem of the day that changes at midnight…

Not yet tested. No analysis has been published for this app, so there is no method to describe for it yet. A missing label is not a clean bill of health: it means nothing has been read, not that nothing is wrong.
