About this app

Dark Surf gives Safari a thoughtful dark mode for every website.

Instead of painting over pages, Dark Surf reads each site’s own design and rebuilds it in the dark. Backgrounds and cards turn deep and calm, text stays crisp, and the colors that carry meaning, like buttons, links, warnings and highlights, keep their character. Photos stay natural.

SMART BY DEFAULT

• Leaves websites that already have a dark design alone

• Keeps dark logos, icons and formulas visible

• Keeps text on top of photos readable

• Handles modern websites built with CSS variables, Tailwind, Bootstrap and web components

MAKE IT YOURS

• Six themes: Midnight, Ocean, Dim, Warm, Graphite and true-black AMOLED

• Build your own palette from any colors

• Fine-tune brightness and contrast, and choose how images look

• See every change instantly in a live preview that runs Safari’s own Dark Surf engine…

Version 2.0.0 · 2026-09-27
Dark Surf 2 is a complete rebuild. • A new engine reads each website’s own design and rebuilds it in the dark, keeping buttons, links, highlights and photos looking right. • Websites that already have a dark design are left alone. • Dark logos, icons and formulas stay visible, and text over photos stays readable. • Choose Dark, Invert or Off for any website right from Safari. • Six themes, including the new Ocean and Dim, or build your own palette. • A redesigned app with a live preview that runs Safari’s own Dark Surf engine. Your settings carry over.

Method and limits

What this report can and cannot show

What a missing label means

Not yet tested. No analysis has been published for this app, so there is no method to describe for it yet. A missing label is not a clean bill of health: it means nothing has been read, not that nothing is wrong.

Limits of this report

  • A package scan is static. It identifies code and text in one Android build. It does not measure a live ad session, test a deletion request, or count the steps needed to cancel.
  • Reviews keep their sample. A review-only charge shows distinct reviewers, the share and the sample size, and is published only once it clears that label’s published threshold. Calibration labels are machine-drafted and not yet confirmed by a person.
  • Not assessed is a state. It is never a zero and never a pass.
  • A missing label is not a clean bill of health. It means the evidence did not support one, not that the app is problem-free.
Not yet human-reviewed. A human review gives an app hands-on, recorded measurements. None has been run for this app. Hands-on inspections are not yet open.
