About this app

Lightning Alerts is a live lightning tracker and storm map for nearby strike awareness, powered by enterprise-grade lightning data.

Open the map without creating an app account. Check recent strike activity before travel, golf, hiking, boating, surfing, fishing, open-water activities, or everyday weather planning. The map can show both ground-reaching and intracloud strikes. Ground mode helps filter cloud flashes so busy storms are easier to read.…

App Store

Version 1.0.31 · 2026-10-28
Clearer coverage warnings: when you set an alert area, the app now says if part or all of it is outside our lightning coverage, and the map shows a note while one of your alert areas gets no alerts. Also: the map and alerts recover by themselves from a rare connection error. Now supports iPad, with layouts for portrait and landscape.
Version 1.0.30 · 2026-10-24
New: Camera aim in Find helps you photograph red sprites above distant storms. It shows which way to face, how high to tilt and whether the sprites fit in your frame. Inspired by SpriteScope by Sylvain Reybaut. Also: tapping an alert draws a line from you or your saved place to its closest strike, and radar playback dims live strikes while it shows a past frame.

Method and limits

What this report can and cannot show

What a missing label means

Not yet tested. No analysis has been published for this app, so there is no method to describe for it yet. A missing label is not a clean bill of health: it means nothing has been read, not that nothing is wrong.

Limits of this report

  • A package scan is static. It identifies code and text in one Android build. It does not measure a live ad session, test a deletion request, or count the steps needed to cancel.
  • Reviews keep their sample. A review-only charge shows distinct reviewers, the share and the sample size, and is published only once it clears that label’s published threshold. Calibration labels are machine-drafted and not yet confirmed by a person.
  • Not assessed is a state. It is never a zero and never a pass.
  • A missing label is not a clean bill of health. It means the evidence did not support one, not that the app is problem-free.
Not yet human-reviewed. A human review gives an app hands-on, recorded measurements. None has been run for this app. Hands-on inspections are not yet open.
