Inspection programme — not yet open

Appworthy will offer a hands-on test: a person runs our test protocol against your app on a real device and records what it measures. The programme has not opened. Nothing is on sale, and no price is set.

How it works, before it opens

Four commitments that do not wait for the programme.

01

Bands are free and automatic.

Every analysed app gets its band row at no cost. There is no band you can only get by paying, and no test changes one.

02

You would buy the test, not the outcome.

A hands-on test runs our test protocol and records what it measures; code decides what the measurements mean. A test can confirm a finding against you, contradict one, or add one we had not published, and it removes a credit as readily as it adds one.

03

Factual corrections are free and always will be.

If something objective on your listing is wrong, send the evidence and we correct it, at no charge.

04

The audit record is published.

Every completed test is listed on the audit record, voided tests included, with what each one confirmed, added and contradicted.

The hands-on test

What a test is, and what it leaves on your page.

A person runs our test protocol against the app on a real device and records measurements: seconds, taps, what a screen showed. The auditor records; code decides what the measurements mean.

  • A dated mark, not a grade. A completed test leaves the words “Human-reviewed” with the protocol version, the date, the device, the app version and the store tested. It says how the app was checked, never how it did.
  • The mark has no end date. It is not withdrawn because time has passed or the app was updated. When the store version has moved, the page says which version was tested and which is current.
  • A test does not change a band. It confirms or contradicts findings and adds measurements, and those are published in the app’s report. A contradicted finding stays on the page with both sides shown.
  • Free trials only. Our auditors incur no charge, so cancelling is tested only where a free trial can be started and cancelled without one. Where it cannot, the page says we did not test cancelling.
  • One auditor, for now. Each test is run by one auditor and is not double-run, and the page says so.
 If tests are ever sold

Nobody has paid us for a test. If the programme opens, four things hold, and they are commitments rather than intentions:

  • We publish the aggregate audit record: how many tests confirmed, added and contradicted findings.
  • The human-reviewed state is a distinct dated mark. It is never folded into a band row.
  • We keep running tests at our own cost, so the mark is never reachable only by paying.
  • We say all of this in plain words, including that a test you paid for can go against you.

The rule we hold ourselves to for anything we publish that puts pressure on a developer:

Pressure is legitimate where it is either free to discharge or identical for everyone. Where it is neither — where a published state names one app and only money resolves it — it is a bill, not a notice, and it must not be published.

Open now

Correct a fact on your listing.

Free, and open to anyone with evidence.

To report a factual error, email [email protected] with the app, what is wrong and the evidence.

This page has no form, and nothing typed on it is sent anywhere. A person reads the email and checks the fact against the store listing or the app. If we got it wrong, we correct the data. A disagreement with a judgement is not a factual correction; the programme that would re-test one is not yet open.
